“We are repacking fruity bunny cereal—I think it’s a hot seller!” Says Erik Lashley, a 27-year-old accounting student from Seattle University. Erik, dressed in complete food repacking gear, volunteered at Food Lifeline last week with Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting society at the university. “Through [this group] we do a lot of different volunteer activities and we just thought this was a great opportunity to help out…I definitely don’t want anyone to go hungry” Erik says. Standing at the conveyor belt with him are five other volunteers, all of them repacking cereal into family-sized bags to be distributed to local food banks. “What really surprised me was how much food goes to waste [each year]. That was pretty shocking, and anything we can do to help is good.” We truly appreciate the thousands of volunteers who support Food Lifeline. It is because of volunteers like Erik and the Beta Alpha Psi group that we are able to feed more than 675,000 people each year.
