But what can one person do? Individual volunteers help support every Food Lifeline department, every day. We can put your time and talents to work in any number of ways:
Help us manage our paper flow and keep our data organized. Tasks may include filing, data entry, scanning documents, compiling spread sheets, or collating forms. Join us for 2-4 hours once per week.
Travel with a Food Lifeline driver on a route to local grocery stores, produce markets, or other food vendors to receive donations. Routes are 7-8 hours in duration, Mon-Fri, and begin between 4:00-7:00 am. Volunteers need to be able to safely lift up to 40 pounds, and will start and end their routes in Shoreline.
In a typical month, 925 volunteer hours are needed to inspect food in the Product Recovery Center to make sure it is safe and ready for distribution. Volunteers are needed Mon-Fri from 8:30am-4:30pm. This is a great volunteer opportunity for volunteers ages 16 and older, but is also attractive to those who are retired. Join us for 2-4 hours, once or twice a week.
We have the perfect opportunity for high-school and college students to use the skills they’ve honed in the classroom; choose the specific department at Food Lifeline that most closely matches your experience or your educational interest, and we can work with you to meet your individual requirements and give you a meaningful internship experience.
If you aren’t able to make a long term volunteer commitment, assisting with special events is a perfect way for you to lend support. Volunteers are needed throughout the year to assist with food drives and help with fundraising events. Activities vary from season to season.
