On Thursday, October 15, Food Lifeline will host a group volunteer day in support of Macy’s “Come Together” Campaign with Board Member and Celebrity Chef, Tom Douglas, and local Macy’s employees at its Shoreline Repack Center. Volunteers will help sort, label and repack food for distribution to Food Lifeline’s 300 member food banks, meal programs and shelters in Western Washington.
Macy’s and Food Lifeline, the local member of Feeding America, have partnered for an innovative and meaningful new effort this fall that celebrates the Renaissance of cooking at home with a goal of raising 10 million meals for domestic hunger. The “Come Together” campaign will invite customers to host dinners in their homes, but will ask their guests to donate to Feeding America in lieu of the traditional hostess gift of a dish or bottle of wine. Macy's will match customer donations dollar for dollar until they reach a total of 10 million meals.
Macy’s Culinary Council Chef, Tom Douglas, will prepare some of his signature dishes at the downtown Seattle Macy’s on Thursday, October 15 at 6 p.m. Feed your passion for gourmet cooking while showing your support for Food Lifeline.
Food Lifeline is a local hunger relief organization, efficiently serving the Western Washington area by using 95% of revenue to directly feed hungry people. Last year the organization delivered more than 17 million meals to hungry people through its network of more than 300 neighborhood food banks, hot meal programs, shelters and other food providers. Food Lifeline is also a member of the national organization, Feeding America. For more information about Food Lifeline or to make a tax-deductible donation, log onto www.foodlifeline.org or call 206-545-6600.
Feeding America (formerly known as America’s Second Harvest—The Nation’s Food Bank Network) is the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. Through its network of more than 200 member food banks, Feeding America annually provides assistance to more than 25 million people in need, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
