Shoreline, Wash. (October 16, 2009) – Food Lifeline, the largest hunger relief organization in Washington and local Feeding America member, and Macy’s, partnered for the "Come Together" campaign this fall. An innovative and meaningful new effort, the "Come Together" campaign celebrates the Renaissance of cooking at home with a goal of raising 10 million meals for domestic hunger.
"We are honored to be a part of this innovative national effort that not only raises awareness surrounding domestic hunger, but inspires people across the national to take action," said Linda Nageotte, President and CEO of Food Lifeline.
On Thursday, October 15, Food Lifeline Board Member and Macy’s Culinary Council Chef Tom Douglas prepared a few of his signature dishes at the downtown Seattle Macy’s. Chef Douglas conducted a cooking demo with Macy’s Executive Chef Toni Keene. After the demo, guests were served crab cake stuffed mushrooms, Etta’s pit roasted salmon with grilled shiitake relish, Etta’s cornbread pudding, Mom’s shrimp dip with potato chips and Dahlia’s pear tart with caramel sauce.
The "Come Together" campaign invites customers to host dinners in their homes, but will ask their guests to donate to Feeding America in lieu of the traditional hostess gift of a dish or bottle of wine. Macy's will match customer donations dollar for dollar until they reach a total of 10 million meals. For additional information or to support the "Come Together" campaign, please visit http://social.macys.com/cometogether/#/home.
