Food Frenzy Breaks Million Dollar Mark for Hungry People

Shoreline, WA, Jul. 1, 2006 - - Folks were feeling the heat the last two weeks of July - and it wasn't because the thermometer was breaking records, either. The scorcher was Food Lifeline's annual Food Frenzy competition between local law, accounting and public sector organizations to raise food and funds for hungry children. Through creative office antics and fundraising activities, participants raised enough money and food to provide 860,000 meals for hungry children in Western Washington.

Participating organizations went all out for hungry children - from office auctions, pastry and dessert sales to an "American Idol"-style karaoke competition, the event raised $1.5 million dollars worth of food - a first for the annual fundraiser! Their combined efforts ensure that hungry children have food during the summer months, when they no longer have access to free and reduced-price school breakfast and lunch.

"Food Lifeline is especially grateful to the 65 organizations who participated in Food Frenzy this year, as the need at neighborhood food banks continues to rise," explained Linda Nageotte, Food Lifeline President & CEO. "It is because of their incredible dedication, energy and commitment that this event was so successful this year. It makes a real difference to those in need."
